Playing with Play-doh

You may or may not know that baking is not my “thang”. There was an episode with a batch of chocolate chip cookies not too long ago that I chronicled on my other blog. My friend Stephanie got a good chuckle out of that and suggested that she could send her son over to help […]

LOL..I love the picture of Ryan banging on the cookie cutter with the bottle of Modge Podge.

That is awesome that you were able to make light of the situation and have fun with your family.

It was funny! We all had a good time. I got up today and baked another cake and he said, “That one doesn’t look too yellow.” Meaning it doesn’t look like a twinkie so we’ll see what happens once I make the filling.

The cake this morning turned out SO much better than the one last night. I used a different recipe and it looks gorgeous. I’ll post pics once we get all the twinkie elements together.

Yum. I’m such a sweet tooth I’ll even take a piece of your spongey cake, please. I’ll make do. :)

Stephanie - September 27, 2007 - 3:39 pm

lol.
a cake that a cookie cutter cannot cut.
I didn’t know that was possible!
:)
In your defense, I”ve ever heard of a cake with beaten egg whites, so that was the problem, definitely.
Why would they say that, I wonder? In a cake???

whimsigal - September 27, 2007 - 6:42 pm

Laura,

I just finished wrapping up the final new version of the homemade twinkies and they are SO much better than what you see here. This cake reminded me of my low-carb days. It had that kind of taste. Yuck!

Stephanie,

I believe a genoise uses egg whites and the same goes for flourless chocolate cakes. I think the difference is this particular recipe didn’t call for egg yolks to be added in later. That’s according to my mom anyway.

I did make a cake using a different recipe though and am getting ready to update in a minute!

My Interview with the Radio Mom

Last week I mentioned to you that Kemi Ingram, the Radio Mom, had contacted me for an interview regarding unschooling. Well we did the interview last Thursday and it’s now available for your listening pleasure here. I was pretty nervous during the interview and hopefully you will feel that I accurately described unschooling. It was […]

I shall listen to it – bit I’ll have to wait for a good wireless connection!
As soon as I do, I’ll let you know!
xxoo

Rinnyboo - September 26, 2007 - 8:37 pm

Evie!

You sounded great. I couldn’t tell that you were nervous at all. I thought you gave a good description of unschooling. I really liked how you talked about your boys and said that you know them really well. That was sweet.

whimsigal - September 26, 2007 - 8:41 pm

Thanks, Marin! When I listened to it all I could do was be critical of myself so it’s nice to hear another perspective.

Tiffani - September 27, 2007 - 5:13 am

that was wonderful!!!!

First…your accent made me miss all my Atlanta friends from when I lived out there.

Second…you sounded so confident and joyful about what you spoke on.

Third…I loved everything you had to say about unschooling.

I think you were fabulous and brave to go on the radio mom show! Did she find you through the article in the paper?

If I weren’t already an unschooler, and I’d listened to that interview, I’d want to be one now. :)

whimsigal - September 27, 2007 - 11:21 am

LOL I wondered how much of an accent I had! Even in the interview I can’t hear it! When were you in Atlanta, we used to live there, too.

Thanks for your comments, Tiffani. Your kind words really mean a lot. Kemi, The Radio Mom, is a member of Always Unschooled and there was a link there to the newspaper article. I’m a member of that group as well so she just emailed me and invited me to do it. Frankly I was hesitant to do it because I was thinking, “Who am I to discuss this topic? I’m certainly not an expert like Sandra Dodd.” And I worried about what she might think if I described something wrong. Sandra can be a pretty tough critic. But I decided to go ahead and do and just prayed that I didn’t sound like a babbling moron and say, ya know, right, um, or anything like that a million times!

Your comments and Marin’s too have made me feel a lot less nervous about sharing it with people.

Thank you!

Evie

Laura - September 27, 2007 - 3:24 pm

Hey there – I just listened to it while I washed dishes! It was great, I thought you sounded very calm and confident and gave a very good synopsis of unschooling. You could hear the love for your boyz, that’s for sure! That’s awesome that you got to do it! Bravo!

Stephanie - September 29, 2007 - 3:48 pm

Hi!
Sorry it took so long for me to listen to it!
It was great!
I htought you did very well.
I would have stammered and not made any sense – but you were great!
I’m most impressed!
:)
And one more
!

whimsigal - September 29, 2007 - 3:55 pm

Steph,

I’m so glad you liked it!!

Can’t wait to hear your response to the other thing…

Evie

What we’ve been up to

Well, not a ton. It’s gotten hot here again and we’ve been sitting inside enjoying the a/c. I had already gone into winter mode and quit shaving my legs so I’ve been burning up in jeans! LOL Since we cleaned up the boys’ playroom they have been very kind and have kept it tidy. They […]

It’s a good life.
Full of so many wondrous things – it’s pretty great when recognizing the magic becomes commonplace.
Encouraging to the rest of us, too!

Stephanie - September 26, 2007 - 1:45 am

I know I’ve asked before –
But if I promise not to over-use it, could you Please tell me how to put in the strike-through?
I’m dying to know!

whimsigal - September 26, 2007 - 2:00 am

Well, I just learned how to do the strike-through on Sunday so you haven’t asked me before. That was one of your other friends. (She said in a voice that sounded like a jealous wife)

lol I don’t mind sharing the secret, especially with someone from whom I stole their blogger layout!

It’s really easy. But I will have to email it to you because it won’t let me use it in the comment section.

Stephanie - September 26, 2007 - 2:19 am

Thanks, Darling!
I’ll send you a long note tomorrow – I’m out for tonight!
