Back after a brief rest

First of all, thanks to everyone who stopped by my little pity party last week and left encouraging words here for me. I was feeling really down but feel recharged and ready to face the world again. I had no idea that my post would cause that kind of reaction but I feel so lucky […]

Awww shucks…I’m blushing over here!

Thanks for all the sweet stuff you said. I am wracking my brain though trying to remember when I was gentle with Ian.

Thanks for the compliments. You made my week!

Your guys are so sweet to play with Ian. I know there was a bit of an issue over Mario but I thought Ryan and Iain were so accommodating and really worked to find a solution to make everyone happy.

And, yes! I LOVED my wedding. It was the best wedding I could have possibly had. Ever. Also, I forgot to tell you this part but when we got home someone told us that the town we got married in, Bonnyrigg, has the most UFO sightings in the UK. I thought that was really cool…

{gasp} Someone kicked you?!?
(And then, conspiratorily)Who was it? Want me to beat her up?

Well, in her defense, maybe she wasn’t trying to KICK so much as admit her own faults, and to express a sense of empathy and “no one does it just right”.

‘ Course, I wouldn’t know…

Former 4 year Homeschoolin mom here, mom to 13, 11, and now 7 year old.

I too, have reached the point of being UNCOOL, and realizing that “compassion” has to become my mainstay of mommying. It is so easy to Yell, shout, and generally be a ‘bully’ mom. That is NOT what I want. I want to speak gently…its just that …yah…that’s it…I make excuses, yelling is easier than taking the time to explain.

Here’s to being more loving and compassionate toward our urchins.

whimsigal - October 24, 2007 - 1:03 pm

You’re right, it is easier to give in to that rush of emotion and just yell and bully. I embarrassed that I still do it from time to time. It’s hard to be a mindful parent.

You’re also right that it’s time to quit making excuses and choose this moment as the one where we stop. Just stop, no matter how hard it is for us. How can we expect them not behave the same way if we, as adults can’t control ourselves, right?

Thanks for your comment!

NC State Fair – Whare’s the butter statue?

Well, it’s official. I’m lame. Today got off to a good start. The kids were up early and were excited about the fair. I was prepared and at my sister’s early so we could get Makena’s seat in my car, get some cash, and go. The first dumb move happened on the way to the […]

Oh, yes! (she rolls her eyes) You’d be much better off eating a deep-fried twinkie than a (albeit processed) chicken sandwich!
Lame, indeed.
And saved yourself a hundred bucks to boot!
shame, shame.

At least you didn’t get trussed up in a trailor, or sweet talked by the “Oddities” guy!

whimsigal - October 18, 2007 - 11:58 am

I just wanted the whole experience, you know? It just felt like I did it wrong, LOL.

A carnie didn’t even talk to me!

Rinnyboo - October 18, 2007 - 1:01 pm

Holy crap! We totally look like sisters in the car picture. Even more than my sister and I do! I don’t mind if you post pics of Ian or me (just as long as it is flattering. I have a horrible pic that Buck took of me. I will have to send it to you.)

Can I post a pic of Iain? I have a cute one from the swings when he was telling me about his robot arm! It was so funny cuz he told me he had a robot arm and I asked where he got it and he said he didn’t know but at least he was sure that his robot arm (right arm) was stronger than the other one. It cracked me up.

It was just nice to see you guys in person again. We planned to meet Buck anyway so it was not a problem that you had to leave. Besides, now we get to see you next week too! :)

Thanks again for coming all this way.

whimsigal - October 18, 2007 - 1:24 pm

LOL I know, don’t we though?! I did a double take when I saw that one.

Go right ahead and post a picture of Iain, it’s no problem. I can’t believe he told you about his robot arm. He’s too funny and he comes up with stuff like that all the time.

It was good to see you too, though I was sorry we had to leave before meeting Buck. I was looking as forward to that as much as anything else!

We’ve been busy!

Here are some things we’ve been doing since yesterday: Iain and Ryan have been pretending to be superheroes. There was pumpkin painting to be done: Here is a picture of a project that Sean began with the boys a few weeks ago. It finally got to a point where they were happy with it today. […]

Go crafty boys!

never been to the fair.
too dangerous.
double :)

Carnies are an interesting lot.

I dare you to eat one of those fried snickers or cococola things (not really, in case you’re one of those people that can’t resist a dare).
So wierd!
I took a picture of the sign, but that’s as close as I got!

Have a great time!
It’s a photographers paradise, to be sure!

whimsigal - October 17, 2007 - 11:18 am

I was thinking about the deep fried things at the fair but I don’t know if I’m brave enough to try them. It’s going to take us an hour and a half to get home so I’m kind of scared to upset my stomach -with my fear of public restrooms and all.

I’ll take tons of pictures though!

VanderbiltWife - October 17, 2007 - 2:50 pm

The boys look so different with short hair. The picture of Ryan being a superhero is adorable!

–Your friendly blog stalker, Jessica ;)

Colleen - October 17, 2007 - 3:23 pm

What lovely photos. Maybe we’ll paint pumpkins today. It looks so fun! :)

whimsigal - October 17, 2007 - 5:38 pm

Hey Jessica!

I laughed when I saw the pic of Ryan when we got home. It reminded me of my Dolly Parton halloween costume when I was little.

The boys love to paint their pumpkins – you should totally give it a shot! We’ve done it for a couple of years now and I always expect that they’ll paint a face even though they always go for something more abstract. They have so much fun!

Stephanie - October 18, 2007 - 3:43 am

Where are you?
You still at the Fair?
You get snatched by Carnies????

whimsigal - October 18, 2007 - 3:48 am

I’m here. Working on a post for the fair!
