Fall Festival and New Haircuts

On Saturday we went to a Fall Festival that was being offered at a local park. Admission was free and it seemed like there were a lot of fun things to do with the kids so we were off! Well, the parking situation left something to be desired but once we finally got into the […]

How wonderful!!
When I see things like this, I think (sigh) we gotta get out more!

and then I realize that Madd is just little, and we have time yet.

Did you lighten their hair?

whimsigal - October 16, 2007 - 1:59 am

LOL I didn’t lighten their hair chemically. Photoshop can do some amazing things. I got some new actions and a new filter and was playing around with it on the new haircut photos.

Was it too much? I thought it looked really cool.

Oh the hair! My son has always had long hair. There were a few times when he has cut it really short but he has always went back to long. It’s the longest it has ever been right now. I wish I could show you a picture, but alas he just won’t let me.

whimsigal - October 16, 2007 - 1:15 pm

Oh, I would love to see a picture but I understand his desire for privacy, too.

I was a little sad that they wanted it cut but I had to respect their desire to cut it. As sad as it made me to do it! They just looked so free with that hair!

Those faces! Those eyes! Precious.

whimsigal - October 23, 2007 - 1:51 am

Hey Laura!

They get those eyes from their dad. And that blond hair too. For years I paid good money for hair that color and then my boys exit the womb with it naturally!

Homemade Twinkies – Take 2!

Ok, here is the update on the Twinkie situation. Using a recipe for yellow cake that was on, I was able to get a beautiful result. Here’s what it looked like when it came out of the oven: Then, I let it cool down a bit and I made the icing from a recipe […]

Ooh ooh, I want one! Can I have one? Those look good.

whimsigal - September 27, 2007 - 8:19 pm

Thanks! You know what, aside from the goofy recipe from yesterday, these were pretty easy to make. If you want the recipes, let me know and I will email them to you.

Mama Podkayne - September 27, 2007 - 10:01 pm

If you make them like cupcakes in a muffin tin, they might look more like fast food?

whimsigal - September 27, 2007 - 10:17 pm

Yeah, I had considered that and had Ryan ahead of time which he preferred and he said he didn’t want cupcakes he wanted square. he changes his mind a lot! LOL I think I will try and make these again but do them as cupcakes instead.

piscesgrrl - September 28, 2007 - 1:49 am

Those look yummy!

Hey, a shout-out to famous-you on my blog… :-)

VanderbiltWife - September 28, 2007 - 1:45 pm

If you made chocolate cupcakes, filled them with the cream, and then frosted them and put a squiggle of white frosting, they would be an awful lot like ho-hos. I’d love to get your recipe for the cream and try it out!

You think there’s a way in nature to make Cheetos? LOL.

whimsigal - September 28, 2007 - 2:26 pm

Vanderbilt wife:

I’m definitely going to try chocolate! My birthday is next week so maybe I should try that for my cake?

Neither recipe belong to me but I am more than happy to post the sites here where I found them.

I did not use crisco, I used all butter in the recipe.

Please keep in mind that when I say these are a healthier version of Twinkies I do NOT mean low-cal or low-fat. They just don’t have funky stuff in them, I use all natural ingredients.

While I realize this entry is really old, I can’t help but respond. I’m vegan and have just recently created homemade Twinkies using a “creme canoe” pan. Google creme canoe and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I bet if you made the Twinkies using that, your kid would have no issues regarding their aesthetics.

Thanks for your tip! I will definitely check that out!

Playing with Play-doh

You may or may not know that baking is not my “thang”. There was an episode with a batch of chocolate chip cookies not too long ago that I chronicled on my other blog. My friend Stephanie got a good chuckle out of that and suggested that she could send her son over to help […]

LOL..I love the picture of Ryan banging on the cookie cutter with the bottle of Modge Podge.

That is awesome that you were able to make light of the situation and have fun with your family.

whimsigal - September 27, 2007 - 2:05 pm

It was funny! We all had a good time. I got up today and baked another cake and he said, “That one doesn’t look too yellow.” Meaning it doesn’t look like a twinkie so we’ll see what happens once I make the filling.

The cake this morning turned out SO much better than the one last night. I used a different recipe and it looks gorgeous. I’ll post pics once we get all the twinkie elements together.

Laura - September 27, 2007 - 2:43 pm

Yum. I’m such a sweet tooth I’ll even take a piece of your spongey cake, please. I’ll make do. :)

Stephanie - September 27, 2007 - 3:39 pm

a cake that a cookie cutter cannot cut.
I didn’t know that was possible!
In your defense, I”ve ever heard of a cake with beaten egg whites, so that was the problem, definitely.
Why would they say that, I wonder? In a cake???

whimsigal - September 27, 2007 - 6:42 pm

I just finished wrapping up the final new version of the homemade twinkies and they are SO much better than what you see here. This cake reminded me of my low-carb days. It had that kind of taste. Yuck!

I believe a genoise uses egg whites and the same goes for flourless chocolate cakes. I think the difference is this particular recipe didn’t call for egg yolks to be added in later. That’s according to my mom anyway.

I did make a cake using a different recipe though and am getting ready to update in a minute!
