Whoa, it’s only Wednesday??

What a week it’s been thus far.  Yesterday was supposed to be a great fun day of visiting friends and instead turned out to be something much, much different.  We drove an hour and a half to Raleigh to visit my friend Marin and her son, Ian.  The boys were excited, I was excited, and […]

Hey come on honey, don’t feel too guilty, thats a normal mom reaction, there are times when you are not/can’t be with them and they will still do something daft. I have 4 boys – 3 of them grown up and one of 13,and there isn’t enough paper in the world to tell you of the silly things they did and the injuries they caused themselves. Just found your blog and think it’s great.

Hey Rosie! Thanks for your comment. I know you’re right but I couldn’t help feeling a little bad about it. Heaven knows, my husband has told me enough things that I should be prepared for all the crazy things that boys do but yesterday all I could think about was my baby being hurt!! :) I’m a lot calmer now.

I’m glad you like the blog! Please come back again!

My name is Stacie. - January 16, 2008 - 5:38 pm

I agree with Rosie. I understand why you feel guilty. I would too. But we really can’t protect them from everything. Glad he’s feeling better. Cute kid.

whimsigal - January 16, 2008 - 5:43 pm

Thanks, Stacie! I think if the injury hadn’t been so serious I wouldn’t have felt so bad about it, you know.

He is a cutie! Thanks for saying that!

Stephanie S. - January 16, 2008 - 7:32 pm

What a nightmare!!
Is it the first major injury?
If it’s one every eight to fifty years…..
I”m sorry honey.
Try not to be mad at yourself. Or sad.
If you can forgive him for doing it (obviously) – then you should forgive yourself, too.

whimsigal - January 16, 2008 - 8:01 pm

It’s the first one for Iain. Ryan has gotten bumps on his head more than I can count but never as bad as this. Ryan is a little sturdier than Iain is, too. :)

Thanks for the encouragement, Steph. Things are so much better today! Well, except for Ryan getting mad at Iain and throwing the metal Lincoln Logs container at his head. That wasn’t so good. lol

I’m just glad Iain’s back to his normal self.

Rinnyboo - January 16, 2008 - 9:14 pm

So sorry, friend, that this happened yesterday! I am feeling really guilty that it happened at my house and in my backyard and that we weren’t there to prevent it.

I hope you are all feeling better today!

Cate - January 16, 2008 - 10:21 pm

Don’t beat yourself up girl, I usually find that you get hit with a wave of grief / guilt / “what if” once the initial crisis is over.

It’ll be one of those “boy” moments Iain will be able to boast about in years to come!

Hang in there,

whimsigal - January 16, 2008 - 11:17 pm

Hey Marin! Now, don’t you feel guilty about a thing! All is well and you are in no way responsible for the crazy things that my kids do.

We’re all good here! Hope you are, too.

Hey there, Cate!

I’m sure you’re right. It’ll be a bragging point for Iain sometime to be sure.

Thanks both of you!

Colleen - January 17, 2008 - 4:24 am

I’m so glad he was okay. I agree with everyone else about the guilt over not being there. He looks so sweet with his chips and his little bowl. :)

piscesgrrl - January 17, 2008 - 4:28 am

Oh wow, yikeys! I’m so glad it turned out alright, but what a scare, huh? UG. I’m sorry that happened!

Major boo-boo-kissin’ hugs from the cornfields.

For the boy AND mom!

whimsigal - January 17, 2008 - 12:57 pm

Thanks Colleen and PG!!

He still has a sore head but other than that he’s great. I won’t try and front. I was really scared. If any of us have the good fortune to meet and hang out in person, just pray that nothing serious happens because I’m a mess in a crisis. He was much braver than me!

Thanks again to both of you!

carri - January 17, 2008 - 1:34 pm

OMG! I am so glad that Iain is okay. What a scary thing to go through.

I totally understand the guilt thing though. Chloe is my one child who is always getting hurt. She’s broken teeth and split her chin open and on and on and on. And usually I am not very far away. I’m just not looking at her at the moment. It takes me a while to get over it too.

I hope today goes much better for you guys.

whimsigal - January 17, 2008 - 2:43 pm

Thanks, Carri! :)

We’re sitting here looking at the “snow” we got last night, which wasn’t much, but I think today will be much better!

piscesgrrl - January 17, 2008 - 4:36 pm

We’ll be fine, then, if (WHEN) we get together. When MY kids get hurt, I flake too. When other kids get hurt, I’m cool as a cucumber. A perk from my teacher training days? If I flaked, who’d handle the crisis?

But when something’s wrong with my kids, my brain flies out the back of my head.

MamaK - January 18, 2008 - 1:34 am

Oh, man! That sucks. Head boo boo’s are so scary. Sorry you both had to go through that. Glad all is well, and he and you are a-ok!

childplay - January 18, 2008 - 2:57 am

Glad your little guy is feeling better. It is so scary not knowing what could/might be wrong. :(

KMDuff - January 19, 2008 - 5:50 am

So scary! Oh my! I’m so glad he’s okay! I would have been freaking out too! Glad things worked out though!

whimsigal - January 19, 2008 - 5:59 am

Hey gang! Thanks for your kindness! Iain’s doing much better although he has been suffering with the occasional headache. The doctor said that’s going to happen for the next several weeks.

Thanks so much for all the well-wishes!

Shoe Shopping

Today was the day we went somewhere other than Target for the boys’ shoes. When they were babies, I took them to a “real” shoe store for their first shoes. My MIL and my mom both bought the boys their first shoes at a local kids shoe store and I was stunned at how much […]

Cool kicks! 115.00 not so cool, but happy kids are. Money seems to go faster than it comes. But you know, you can’t take it with you when you go! -K

Donna Boucher - January 7, 2008 - 4:33 am

Cute pictures :o)

We wore Red Ball Jets….and we ran faster and jumped higher.

The shoes had a red dot on the back heel. (It looked like the flag of Japan)

We also had shoes with a boy and a dog :o)

whimsigal - January 7, 2008 - 4:42 am

MamaK – I say that all the time, “you can’t take it with you”, especially when I see my credit card bill! LOL

Thanks for stopping by! Going to Buster Brown was one of my favorite places when I was a little girl. The logo just spoke to me for some reason, even though the dog looked a little freaky!

Our Life in Pictures

What we’ve been doing: Playing with your food can be fun! Ryan made this “Cracker Man” this morning. Here are photos from my fun and tacky Christmas. We couldn’t fit a regular size tree in our family room so we used a four ft fake tree in here. Ryan and Lily (the puppy) keep messing […]

Evie, your home is beautiful. I’m in awe of your decorations.

Catelynn made cracker men yesterday too! Playing with food is great fun.

whimsigal - December 11, 2007 - 12:41 pm

Aw heck. Thanks Carri!

Wow, that’s kind of weird that Catelynn made a cracker man, too! We made our gingerbread houses last night and that was fun as well. Who knew that playing with food could provide such entertainment?

Sheri - December 11, 2007 - 2:36 pm

Your home looks lovely. Holiday crackers always bring back fond memories for me of England. I had never heard of them until we lived there. :) Where on earth did you find them?
