Have you done mentos & Dietcoke rockets? We had a blast with those a couple years ago. There’s some fun youtube videos to see it on.

Great fun projects!

whimsigal - April 20, 2008 - 2:36 am

We haven’t done that but perhaps that’s next for us! Another one of the participants in the fair was going to do that. “Home Sweet Homeschoolers” is the link to follow for that project.

I know the kids would love doing that one so maybe I’ll pick up the ingredients the next time I’m at the store.

Homeschooling Mama - April 20, 2008 - 3:40 am

Even though it didn’t work like planned, what awesome family time to try to figure it all out. :)

I just got our pictures uploaded to our blog and a post all about it. Tell Iain Thank you for coming up with this idea!

Cate - April 20, 2008 - 11:52 pm

What a fantastic effort! Looks like you all had heaps of fun. Will go for a tour later and check out the other participants.

Great idea guys!

Madeline - April 21, 2008 - 1:50 am

I will have to write a post about doing this (with Gillen and Jesse) tomorrow. I learned a lot and it wasn’t just about their topics! I’m so glad that we did this. I love your pictures, as always.

Summer Fae - April 21, 2008 - 2:30 pm

I have really enjoyed looking at all the great science projects.

Mama Podkayne - April 21, 2008 - 8:04 pm

We’re late, but we’re up!

Rinnyboo - April 21, 2008 - 9:01 pm

Thanks for the good idea for the science fair, Iain!

I really liked your pictures as always, Evie.

Almost Time for the Science Fair

Hey everybody!! How’s it going? Hope you’re all gearing up for the 1st Annual Road Less Traveled Science Fair! Iain is extremely excited and can’t wait to see what everyone has been working on. We’ve been pretty busy around here this week and are planning to finish up our projects tomorrow and get them posted […]

Madeline - April 18, 2008 - 2:44 am

We’re in! Jesse and Gillen will be finished tomorrow but I’ll post the sometime on Sat. We have friends coming this weekend so it’s been a rush to get finished, and doing a science fair project within an unschooling bent has merited a post of its own – that will come later. I’m so glad that you guys created this. - April 18, 2008 - 2:57 pm

Yeah, I can’t make it. After being sick and having to finish a newsletter and two assignments for my writing courses I just couldn’t do it. I’m kind of bummed… but hey, maybe there will be a second annual science fair next year. :)

And We’re Off!

Well, we’ve had a good number of folks sign up for the 1st Annual Road Less Traveled Science Fair and we couldn’t be more excited! Iain is trying to narrow down his project from a few different ideas but we’ll definitely have chosen something by this weekend. If you haven’t signed up for the Science […]

Jonathan’s considering it… he’s pondering, “Hmm… that’s a toughie.” He’s actually working on a very elaborate football project right now but I’m not sure he wants the pressure of having it *done*. Can we just post what he’s got done by 4/19? I actually think he doesn’t want it to finished because he’s enjoying it so much!

Cool idea, Iain!!! I’ve been encouraging Jonathan to have his own blog – maybe this will interest him.

whimsigal - April 3, 2008 - 7:05 pm

We’ll put you guys down as a maybe, how about that?

Karen - April 3, 2008 - 10:05 pm

Would making paper count?
My daughter is definitely interested!

whimsigal - April 3, 2008 - 10:14 pm

Absolutely! Don’t forget to email me so I can send you the picture!

carri - April 4, 2008 - 11:45 am

Oops! I completely forgot to come back and tell you that Catelynn does want to participate. Sorry about that. Now we just need to figure out what to do, hmmm…

Rinnyboo - April 4, 2008 - 6:44 pm

Can Ian and I be maybes? I have something in mind I would like to do but we will just be getting back from Murphy around the 19th.

What do you think?

whimsigal - April 4, 2008 - 8:35 pm

Carri, we still have to settle on something this weekend, too!

Marin, you guys can totally be maybes!

evie - April 5, 2008 - 12:43 am

Well, I’m all new to your blog, but a Science Fair sounds like fun. Do I need to know right away what our project is going to be? I just have no clue at the moment, but could sit down in the next couple of days with my daughter and see what she’d like to do.

whimsigal - April 5, 2008 - 1:06 am

You’re more than welcome to join us! Iain is still trying to decide on a project, too. It’s not a competition so whatever you decide to do is cool with us!

Thanks for signing on!

Joan - April 5, 2008 - 2:46 pm

I look forward to seeing them. It’s very relaxing to view other projects after my daughter has already completed hers! Dead squirrel – yuck.

whimsigal - April 5, 2008 - 2:57 pm

Joan, we had ANOTHER dead squirrel this morning plus we had a live mouse caught in a glue trap yesterday. It’s been a gruesome few days around here. Hey, maybe that could be our project….hmmmm maybe not!

sheri - April 7, 2008 - 2:45 am

Okay, we’re in! Rhiannon mulled it over for a couple of days, but Ronin was a spot on “yes!” right away. I’ll drop you an email shortly. :)

whimsigal - April 7, 2008 - 2:50 am

Yes, Sheri!!! So excited that you guys are going to do this, too!!

What a group we have going!

I look forward to your email!!
